Elective Subjects

Elective Subjects under the title 'Applied Geoinformatics' can be covered as a choice of modules covering additional subjects relevant for this course such as highly specialized topics, summer schools, project work or workshops. Credit can be given for practice-oriented and professionally relevant training and/or educational programmes successfully completed at other institutions as well as for scientific work.

Optional Modules
Optional modules tailor the UNIGIS programmes to the needs of students. Students can acquire expert knowledge or learn about new methods and approaches and so broaden their area of interest. The following elective modules (English) awarded with 6 ECTS each are currently offered:

A number of Electives are offered that require less time to complete and are therefore awarded with maximum 3 ECTS points:

Software specific training (like software specific ESRI Training courses) cannot exceed 50% of the total ECTS points awarded towards Elective Subjects. It is obligatory to discuss individual preferences with the study program director prior to choosing Electives. A choice of Electives should be made at the latest when Module 3 “Data Sources and Data Acquisition” is completed.

Summer Schools
Summer Schools or short intensive programmes are compact events with compulsory attendance to convey knowledge, skills and code of practice in (international) project-based cooperation. Check here for current offers and offers by the Department for Geoinformatics - Z_GIS at the University of Salzburg.

UNIGIS e-Portfolios and Blogs
A portfolio refers to individual, public online presentation of student’s own study achievements and Geoinformatics practice (e.g. in a blog). As part of the study phase "Learning Practice and Academic Work" students are encouraged to develop their own e-Portfolio to document the advancement of their Master Thesis.  An overview of the latest e-Portfolios can be found here.
